Continue reading to learn more about 4 ways it can boost your health… Turmeric is a tropical plant that can be found in Indonesia, China, India, and other parts of the world. Because it's a part of the ginger family, the dried aromatic root-like stem is ground into a fine powder. Turmeric is a common ingredient in curry powder and is widely used in cuisine. It adds a deep yellow colour and an earthy flavour. Curcumin, the active element, is responsible for the colour, which has been proved to have beneficial effects on several medical ailments. Pain relief for joints Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory plant that can be consumed or applied topically as a poultice. Turmeric, when applied to the skin, can help to relieve muscle and joint discomfort. It has been shown to alleviate inflammation and pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis in the shoulders, knees, and elbows. It has an antioxidant effect that is similar to that of Vitamins E and C! Can help to maintain brain health Curcumin boosts BDNF levels in the brain, a growth hormone that promotes neurons to connect in new ways. This improves brain function and reduces the risk of diseases like Alzheimer's. Protects the health of the heart Curcumin has been found to increase the quality of endothelial tissue (tissue found in blood vessels), which has a heart-protective effect thanks to turmeric's high antioxidant content. It may also help to lower blood cholesterol and minimise the risk of thrombosis, according to animal studies. Because of turmeric's capacity to enhance bile secretion and boost the synthesis of liver enzymes, it is also considered to be liver protective. Reduces inflammation, which may aid healing Cortisone is a naturally occurring steroid that is used to relieve pain and inflammation. Turmeric is considered to aid in the production of natural cortisone by the adrenal glands when taken internally. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, this indirectly aids in the healing process. Curcumin has been proven in animal studies to have the same anti-inflammatory qualities as cortisone. It is only half as effective in chronic situations as pharmaceutical cortisone injections, but it does not have the same adverse effects. It can also aid people with indigestion by preventing the formation of wind through inhibiting intestinal spasm. How to take turmeric & curcumin supplements... Due to its poor absorption, curcumin is best taken alongside black pepper. Piperine, which is contained in black pepper, can boost turmeric absorption by 2000%. A daily dose of 500mg to 1000mg of dried standardised root extract (containing 95 percent curcuminoids) is recommended for turmeric. Because curcumin is fat soluble, it's best to take it with fat or in a liposomal form, which can help with absorption.
