Illicium Supreme™ is the fruit of a tropical evergreen tree, Illicium verum. Both the roots and fruit have been used  and in recent years, have been further investigated for their medicinal potentiali in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Illicium is rich in essential oils including anethole, safrole, cineole, pinene, and limonine[ii]. Additionally, it is rich in shikimic acid, the precursor molecule used to produce the antiviral drug Tamiflu.
